What is tooth restoration?

Tooth restoration is a process of repairing or enhancing teeth to return a smile to the best condition possible. Restorations are typically used to fix teeth that have been cracked, damaged or have changed colour.

How are tooth fillings done?

Tooth fillings are done to remove and repair any decay within the teeth. This means the structure of the tooth is maintained while any bad tissue is removed, keeping the tooth healthier for longer.

Once the decay is removed using a drill or other tool, the cavity has to be refilled. Traditionally, metals like silver were glued into place to keep the tooth strong. Now, tooth coloured filling materials such as composite or compomer are used to create a more beautiful smile.

When the filling is in place, the tooth should be restored to a healthier, stronger state.
