How is a root canal done?

• A local anaesthetic is given to keep you comfortable
• The dentist will then make a hole in the top of the tooth with a drill
• They will then remove any dead pulp from the tooth's root canal
• Depending on your needs, a dentist may then add a temporary filling and give you antibiotics to ensure any infection is cleared
• At another appointment, the dentist will check to make sure all the infection is gone before filling the tooth
• This filling may be topped by a crown depending on your needs

It's important that you keep an eye out for any signs of further infection after your first treatment. A dentist should inform you of these and tell them to get in contact if you get any symptoms.
